Summer doesn’t begin for another week or so, but we’re off to a rough start in San Antonio. Temperatures are regularly hitting 100 these days. Seems like everywhere you go, someone is complaining about the heat.
Now imagine what it’s like to go through these days without air conditioning in San Antonio.
That’s exactly why Champion Home Services and News 4 WOAI are again teaming up for the Fans 4 SA Fan Drive. We’re collecting new box fans that will be donated to Family Service Association, which will then deliver the fans to people in our city living without AC.
Last year’s fan drive was a huge success. We collected hundreds of fans – and hope to shatter that record this year.
That’s where you come in. There are two ways you can help. First, we’re holding a phone bank tomorrow (Wednesday) from 5-7pm at the News 4 WOAI studios to collect monetary donations. Or you can join us at Wonderland of the Americas (formerly Crossroads Mall) Thursday from 3-7pm for the fan drive itself. We’ll be outside the Burlington Coat Factory entrance collecting fans. News 4 WOAI’s Don Harris and John Gerard will be out there at different times during the drive, so we hope you’ll come out, say hello and drop off a fan or two.
In case you were wondering, you can buy box fans at most box stores or home improvement stores. I saw them last night on sale at Wal-Mart, for instance, for $14.
As the temperatures continue to rise, this truly is a matter of life or death for some. So we hope you’ll help keep our fellow San Antonians cool this summer.
