“The mission of the SAFB is to fight hunger in Southwest Texas through food distribution, programs, education, and advocacy.” The San Antonio Food Bank provides food and groceries to families in need throughout 16 counties in Southwest Texas. About 98% of the resources go straight to one of the many distribution centers (churches, emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, shelters, etc.) where they are distributed to those in danger of going hungry. Many of those served by the SA Food Bank are younger than 18 years old.
Donate/Volunteer at an Animal Shelter
San Antonio is on the road to becoming a no-kill city. If animals are your passion, volunteering or donating to The Animal Defense League, San Antonio Pets Alive, SNIPSA or the San Antonio Humane Society is right up your alley. During the colder months, shelters are often in need of blankets, “laundry angels” and more! Find the shelter nearest you or dearest to your heart and ask what they’re in need of this winter.
Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio (HFHSA) partners with hardworking families in need and helps them builds affordable houses for themselves at no interest and no profit. By volunteering to work on one of their crews, you are helping a family to help themselves. Whether you want to help in the actual building of the home or can provide lunch for the construction crews, there are plenty of ways to get involved with Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio.
Boysville has provided a safe, family environment for children in need since 1943. Its goal is to help children who, by no fault of their own, are in need of a safe place to live and grow into responsible adults. You can support their cause in several ways. Try volunteering as a tutor or gym assistant. Join the festivities by sponsoring a birthday party or volunteering at a holiday meal. Donate clothes, school supplies or other much-needed items. Supporting Boysville will directly impact so many children’s lives for the better.
